The Gospel (The Good News)

While spending some quiet time, I was reminded of a scripture, and the following message was burned in my heart. I have been on this path for a while now, and my prayer is that you’ll be blessed and encouraged by these words. By reading this short message, I believe you will know for sure what path you’re on and what the outcome of your life will be.

Romans 1:16:
For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who believes.

Today, as never before in my lifetime, it seems people are either moving closer to or moving away from the true Gospel message that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again for our salvation.

Some think it’s foolish to believe in a God who allows us to go through suffering and pain, but if one's life has ever been touched by the Redeemer, they can never forget the incredible love that overwhelms the heart. God gave this world to mankind, and we can easily see what has become of it. Though there is such hate and war in our world, I assure you God is at work in the lives of many people who follow Him. Whatever the cost, they will never deny His name or His message because they’re filled with a love this world cannot give.

My friend, I have been touched by this love; no matter what people think or the suffering we endure, let us never be ashamed of what we believe about the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.

The dictionary describes the meaning of the Gospel as “the teaching or revelation of Jesus Christ.”  This is why the first four books in the Bible are referred to as the Gospels. The actual Greek translation of the word is “the Good News of the coming Messiah.” It’s good news because He came providing a way to be saved from our sins, giving us a new spiritual life and a whole new outlook.

The old English spelling of the word Gospel is rendered, God-spel. When examining it from this point, we can easily see which way we are heading. What spel (spell) are we under, God’s spel or the world’s spel? A spel is described as a state of mind where someone is not fully in control of their thoughts or actions. When someone is under a spel, they’re devoted to the one who has power over them and in most cases, never even realizing it.

This is a very serious matter, but it’s not hard to know who our master is and the One we’re devoted to. All we have to do is examine our thoughts and words. By this we can clearly know what spel we’re under and who is controlling our actions and our future. Either we are under God’s spel, the world's spel, or directly under satan’s spel!

You might think you’re not under anyone’s spel, but that’s impossible. Again, it’s easy to discern just by examining what occupies your thoughts and words.  Considering the three, I know which one I want to be under.

Living in a fallen world, we’re tempted to give into sin from time to time. Some sins and mistakes are much more costly than others, but God is not moved by our failures and His Word never changes. He is merciful and compassionate to all who come to Him. This is what repentance is all about.

Following Christ (God’s spel) doesn’t always lead us down a path of ease, but it always brings a freedom and joy unspeakable. Although there may be a time of failure, sorrow, or setback, God will eventually reward the faithful with His abundant blessings.

James 5:11:
…we count as blessed those who have endured. You have heard of Job’s endurance and have seen the outcome from the Lord: The Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

Though Job lost everything, the Lord restored it all back to him, and much more, because He is compassionate and merciful. If we’re faithful to Him, we will get the same reward Job received. I can completely relate to Job. And thank God, I know what road I’m on, and I know what the final outcome will be for me. How about you my friend?

We’ve all fallen at different times in our lives, making some costly mistakes, but it’s high time to repent and begin following God’s spel instead of the way of this world, the flesh, and the devil. The price has been paid for all the sin and failure of mankind. No one is without hope; no one can stay bound when truly calling upon His name.

If you’ve never asked Jesus Christ to come into your life, or if you’ve walked away from the Gospel, today is your day to return to the Lord. Call upon His name now, change your way of thinking, and begin speaking words that honor your Master. Let’s make sure we are controlled and influenced by God’s thoughts, and then we can know the outcome of our lives is secure.

His thoughts are all good toward us!
