Redeeming the Time

SteveWise2The first part of the year was very busy, and there were many opportunities to share the Gospel message at MX tracks and various events. Things slowed down through the hot summer months, which has provided me time to deal with certain issues and spend many quality hours seeking God for wisdom.

I’ve tried to write a newsletter for the past few months, but I couldn’t get a release in my spirit to do so. Just now have I sensed a freedom to send this message out my friends. This message is for me as much as anyone and I believe this is Gods design for us all. I just want to be an encouragement to your faith and purpose in Jesus Christ in this hour.

Col. 4:5&6 says, Walk in wisdom towards those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, be seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

The reason Bible study and learning are important is because we gain instruction for our benefit and for us to benefit the lives of other people. The Bible was not written by perfect men (there is only One), but by imperfect men that bring a perfect message with grace and truth.

In my life, many times I’ve failed to walk in wisdom, many times I’ve failed to speak with grace, and many times my answers to others were not what they should have been. The first thing I realized after reading this passage is that I’m already forgiven for the many times I haven’t lived up to the things listed, because I know my greatest desire is to please the Lord.

Looking at our past mistakes can be useful and at certain times, we can visit them for our learning. But then we must move away from that thought looking ahead, realizing Jesus has already forgiven and forgotten whatever it was. When the enemy tries to bring condemnation about a sin or mistake, we must immediately remind him that we're already forgiven and our sins are under the Blood of Christ.

The temptation to continually remember our failures is a waste of time, and God is calling us to redeem the time. After we’ve dealt with a mistake and learned from it, we must move on and not allow any thought to keep us down because of our failure. It is now totally forgiven.

What a waste of time it is to dwell on and think about what would have been, what could have been, or what should have been. It’s not and never will be worth our time sitting around sulking over something that’s already done, gone, and over. We must move on, forgetting those things that are behind and reach forward to those things which are ahead.

Paul wrote, redeem the time!  This expression means buying up the opportunities and taking advantage of all occasions to do good to restore. It would be great to have time back that we wasted, but again we must not dwell on the past. We need to ask God for wisdom to guard us from wasting time on useless things.

Jesus redeemed and restored us back to God when He paid the price on the Cross-for our sins, and He’s promised to redeem the lost and wasted time in our lives as well. It’s time for us to let God redeem the time we wasted on things that did not profit our walk in Christ. We can’t buy back or restore the time, but the Lord will when we have our eyes focused on His purpose and the prize He has in store for us.

Joel 2:25 says, I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten…among you!

Do we really believe this promise? If so, we must stop talking about our past mistakes and failures and trust God to bring forth a new beginning in our lives. Our words must be — “Yes, God will restore and redeem all the time that was stolen, and He will fulfill His purpose in the future years of our life.

God is not only interested in restoring months and days, but our years. He’s with us for the long haul in and with Him our future is bright.

My heart’s prayer has been, “God give me a heart that burns bright with your passion and fire, but let me deliver it with a grace and truth that restores.” Friends, I pray you are encouraged to let God redeem your time and restore your years, as I’m asking Him to do for me. He loves us so much!
